Use the Calendar View to customize your GFS rotation scheme

With GFS rotation either enabled or disabled, you can use the Calendar View feature to customize your rotation scheme according to the types of backups you want for particular days of the week or month. This feature enables you to specify exceptions to the standard rotation scheme you are using.

To customize a rotation scheme, perform the following procedure:

  1. From the drop-down box at the top of the Schedule dialog, select a standard rotation scheme.

You can specify each of these standard rotation schemes with GFS either enabled or disabled.

  2. If you selected a rotation scheme with GFS, select the Enable GFS check box.

If you select this option, enter a Media Pool Name Prefix in the space provided.

Otherwise, from the drop-down box, select a Media Pool Used from the available media pools.

  3. Click the Calendar View tab at the bottom of the panel.

The Calendar View appears, with a graphic view of the rotation scheme you specified.

The Calendar View begins on the Start Date you specified and displays information about the backup method for each date in symbolic form. If you are viewing a high-resolution display, this information also appears in word form.

You can view information about the backup method by placing the cursor on the date box for a day on which a job is assigned.

The Calendar View displays the following symbols for backup types on specific dates:

  4. Symbol

    Description

    Full backup on this date.

    Incremental backup on this date.

    Differential backup on this date.

    No backup on this date.

  5. To change the backup method for a specific date, right-click the mouse on the date you want to be an exception.

    A pop-up menu appears.

  6. Select the backup method you want to substitute as an exception.

The date with the exception now appears gray with the icon for the exception backup method.

You can also use this pop-up menu to remove a previously inserted exception (select Remove Exception), and to change the properties of the backup for that date, for example, execution time and backup type. To do so, select Properties.

    The Property dialog appears.

  7. Save your customized rotation scheme.

    The Save Scheme dialog opens.

Your rotation scheme is saved and your backup jobs run according to this scheme.

Note: With a high-resolution display, you can resize the Manager window by clicking and dragging. Expanding the Backup Manager window also increases the amount of information.
